Though the tornados in Florida are usually weaker
than tornados along Tornado Alley, they do occur frequently and can
cause considerable damage. This RV park was destroyed by a tornado
in 1998. (NOAA, 1998.

Earlier we looked at factors that create hurricanes and tornadoes.
As you know, they can be earth's strongest storms. Some areas rarely
experience the devastation caused by either of these storms and
other areas are frequently hit with these severe weather
patterns.
The state of Florida is often plagued by severe weather. From
August 13, 2004 thorough October 24 of 2005, eight hurricanes hit
Florida. The state is also frequently hit by tornados, sometimes
experiencing over ninety tornados in a single season. Let's compare
that to Utah. Utah sometimes receives precipitation from weather
patterns associated with hurricanes; however, it is too far inland
to be directly impacted by a hurricane. On average, Utah experiences
two weak tornados per year. On August 11, 1999 a weak tornado hit
Utah. Despite the fact that the tornado was categorized as the
weakest type of tornado that there is, one person was killed in the
storm and eighty people were injured. It was the second time in
Utah's history that a death had been caused by a tornado.
