- Conclusions 2: Decide to Decide
1. Decide to Believe
Believe in God and believe in yourself. Believe that God is very interested in you as an individual. Believe that He is anxious for you to succeed. He has provided the sure pattern for ultimate success in the gospel of His son, Jesus Christ. When our lives are consistent with His gospel, we are given confidence through His Spirit that allows us to meet our daily challenges (D&C 121:45). We can say the following along with Nephi:
The Lord is able to do all things according to his will, for the children of men, if it so be that they exercise faith in him. . . . Wherefore, let us be faithful to him. (1 Nephi 7:12)
The Prophet Joseph Smith taught the following:
Never get discouraged, whatever difficulties might surround [you]. If [you were] sunk in the lowest pit of Nova Scotia, and all the Rocky Mountains piled on top of [you], [you] ought not to be discouraged, but hang on, exercise faith and keep up good courage and [you] should come out on top of the heap. (George A. Smith’s journal, quoted by Preston Nibley in Church Section, 12 Mar. 1950, 16)
Decide now to keep your faith in God and your faith in yourself strong. Two people can do anything, as long as one of those people is the Lord. If you work with the Lord, you cannot fail.
