Setting Personal Goals
Title: Setting Personal Goals
Course Description: This is a beginning course on Setting Personal Goals and building your own Personal Financial Plan. Knowing what you want to accomplish in life is critical to any discussion on Financial Planning. Your goals are what you want to achieve in life. The purpose of Financial Planning is to help you to achieve your personal and family goals, and if you don't know what you want to accomplish, all financial planning can do is to help you to be more efficient in saving.
Difficulty Level: Beginning. This course is recommended for all individuals.
Time to Complete: To complete this course, I estimate it will take about an hour to review, and a half hour more if you do the problems at the end of the section. However, you could spend days thinking about and writing down your own personal goals. To get the full benefit from this course, I strongly recommend that you also put together your personal and family goals, where you determine what it is you want to accomplish in life and with your family.
Output: With the successful conclusion of this assignments, you will have written down the things you want to accomplish in life, your short-, medium-, and long-term goals. You will have taken your top three goals, and written about them in detail. You will have written your epitaph, what you want to be remembered about in life. And you will have answered the question, "What does Heavenly Father want you to do or be?" To help you see what others have done, I have received permission and have shared the goals section of three different individuals financial plans to help you see what others have done (see Teaching Tools 2A, 2B, and 2C: Examples of Goals).
