We must give to those in need because we have a concern for their well-being and happiness. We should not give out of pride because we have abundance, but out of love because we, too, are the beneficiaries of selfless giving from our Heavenly Father. We are to give out of gratitude for all that He has done for us. Paul writes the following:

And though I give all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, if I have not love, it profits me nothing. (1 Corinthians 13:3)
