Tithing: Principles and Promises
Tithing is my first priority. Tithing is not charity, but a debt of thankfulness for all that the Lord has given us. Malachi 3:10 states the following:
Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
My testimony of the blessings of tithing is extremely strong. Doctrine and Covenants 64:23 teaches us the following:
Behold, now it is called today until the coming of the Son of Man, and verily it is a day of sacrifice, and a day for the tithing of my people; for he that is tithed shall not be burned at his coming.
To me, tithing is not a sacrifice: it is an investment. And as it has been humorously pointed out, “the returns are out of this world.”
