Fight It - Role in Your Life - My Gradual Victory Over You
My victory over you is gradual. When I touch you, your
heart finds it harder to make the blood flow to the parts where it's most
needed. This leads in a rise in blood pressure and faster breathing to inhale
extra oxygen.
The limited
amount of blood is diverted to the priority areas – muscles, heart, lungs,
kidney and the brain. This leads to a temporary “shut down” in other areas; for
example.
·
The digestive system slows down or stops;
·
The salivary glands dry up;
·
Blood vessels in the kidney and abdomen constrict;
·
The immune system becomes less active;
When I remain with you over a long
period without resolution, my second stage is reached – the adaptation stage.
The problem of
high blood pressure (hypertension) becoming permanent is greater because of the
compulsive maintenance of constricted blood vessels. Even circulatory problems
involving the heart may begin to appear. There is a tendency in the adaptation
or chronic phase to develop such conditions as stomach or duodenal ulceration,
colitis, diarrhea or constipation. Chronic muscular tension can also produce a
multitude of muscular skeletal aches and pains as well as severe headaches. The
repetitive stress stimulus makes infections and allergic
symptoms more likely. The likelihood of nervous symptoms such as
nervousness and phobias also become greater.
