Design Quality
Design quality also includes prevention of waste generation,
which is achieved through building quality into products and services and
efficiency into production and delivery processes. Costs of preventing problems
at design stage are much lower than costs of correcting problems, those
occurring during subsequent stages of production, installation, delivery and
servicing. Design quality includes the creation of robust and fail proof
processes and products.
Design quality also depends upon ability of the designers to
use information from diverse sources and database that provide useful
information related to customer preferences, competitive offerings, price
structures, market- place changes and external research findings.
From the point of public responsibility, the design stage
is critical. Design decisions determine the process waste generation during
manufacturing. Growing awareness and demand to protect environment calls for
appropriate design strategies, which can prevent the generation of industrial
and municipal wastes during production and supply of all kinds of products and
services.
