FREE online courses on Maximum Managing People - Dealing With People
It is important to understand the people
around you. What is their philosophy? Are they straightforward or deceptive? Do
they move aggressively to capitalize on your imperfections or do they try to
give you the breathing space required? What are their real plans as opposed to
what they say? These are all important questions for doing business and living a
life.
There are different ways of dealing with
people. For example some managers
try to set very ambitious targets for their employees in order to motivate them.
The idea is that an employee with a 20% sales target is going to do things very
differently than one with a 10% target. Indeed his whole mindset will have to
change. However there is an inherent problem here – that you cannot fight a
trend of opposition. This trend maybe made up of people and situation specific
factors which tend to restrict an employee's mobility. Also by taking
disproportionate risk you risk disproportionate failure. The danger is that you
may lose the whole game instead of just a few rounds.
