With People - Do not burst the bubble
A friend of mine from North who had gone to Tirupati, where the richest God on
earth is supposed to live, dropped in to see me one day. He was all excited,
having just returned from the land of Lord Venkateswara. "Rao, you must go to
Tirupati. It will be the high point of your life." He spent another seventy-five
minutes eloquently insisting that it would change my life. Incidentally, he
forgot to see countless treasures that were there in the house, more or less,
collected from the very places he was highlighting during his dramatic
monologue. My friend, unfortunately, was not with me, he was in Tirupati -
living in his own private world. I didn't want to spoil his day by telling him
how many times I visited Tirupati, so listened patiently and appreciatively.
Yes, it is human nature to be more concerned about ourselves and our interests
and problems than those of other people. But once you stop focusing on yourself
and give sincere attention to someone else, you have done really great thing for
that person. One thing is sure, if you want to get along with people, don't
burst their bubble. Do not interrupt and try to put them in a spot.
