Can you name the longest word in
the English language? No? Well it's ‘Smiles', because it has a mile in the
middle! (Yes, we know you read that in KG, but bash on). And now that you're
smiling, you actually look human!!
A frown is either habitual, the result of early years spent behind counters, or
unconscious imitation of then-authority figures. It can make you look forbidding and put people off.
It has been
rightly said that a man who can't smile shouldn't open a shop. “Smile!” It's the first thing sales managers teach their staff…and
frown while telling them so!! Since
beneath the civilized veneer we are still basically apes (‘The Naked
Ape'-Desmond Morris), the response to a scowl/ frown is either reciprocal
aggression, or submission. Even removal of the customary smile or pleasant
expression can convey disapproval.

Confidence in control.
A smiling, assertive and in-control boss is a great morale booster, approachable
for…. you guessed it… staff development! People are more likely to confide
in a boss who exudes power
in control…a smile!
