Learn to manage your team

Teams and their tasks

Start with good people, lay out the rules, communicate with your employees, motivate them and reward them. If you do all these things effectively, you can't miss.

Maximum benefits can be harnessed from a team if each of its individual is encouraged to collaborate in order to generate results. If the manager introduces a sense of urgency to get a positive result in the shortest possible time it encourages the team member to work effectively in the given stretch of goal. The responsibilities of a team might include:

  • Improving the quality of production
  • Efforts to overcome time wastage
  • Building relations with customers
  • Encouraging all employees in decision making
  • Increasing the production rate

A commendable performance by a single team can set an example and galvanize the entire company.

  1. A chief executive heads the Executive Team and its members are chosen according to the roles being performed. Such a team manages the organization on a day-to-day basis. The agenda is regularly discussed during meetings. This team largely depends on the information sent by the lower levels as it heads the complete organization.
  2. The Cross-functional Team is basically an inter-departmental team found at all levels of an organization. It aims at overcoming obstacles while exchanging ideas on a specific task. Each team member comes forward with his/her skill and expertise to solve a problem.
  3. The Business Team is formed by a group of people who take charge of a long-term project within the organization. Such a team runs a unit aiming at its optimum result, depending on the guidance of a leader.
  4. A Formal Support Team provides services such as finance, information, administration and staffing. It shoulders the heavy load of routine work and the company's success depends largely on the efficiency of the support team.
  5. A Project Team is usually employed for the duration of a particular project e.g. Construction of a new facility. Such a team requires groups, a detailed plan and of course a tight discipline. Success of the team depends on the compatibility among the team members.
  6. The Change Team is formed by a group of experts who aim at a change. They seek to improve the results by applying new methods. Such a team desires innovative ideas and dedicated effort.

Forming a team

A team works successfully if there is a good balance between its working independently and being provided support. Good relations within your organization can satisfy your team's needs as well as other requirements. It should be remembered that the external consultant should be considered as a vital team member.
