360 Degree Feedback
Consultant
360-degree feedback is a
good eye opener of how leadership style is perceived by others and perceived by
the individual himself. The feedback may not be an entire truth in itself. It is
a question of better communication. The individual will have to do introspection
and find out the truth of the feedback.
VP, HRD
A company, which is not
accustomed to doing 360-degree feedback, will have a culture shock unless the
employees are adequately prepared for it. However, 360-degree feedback is very
much essential for the development of the people. The performance of the
employee ought to reflect the values that an organization stands for and hence
the implementation of 360-degree feedback should be a must.
GM, Management Development
Very often organizations
have lot of problems in identifying the right team of evaluators who have
absolutely no interaction with the employee being appraised and hence end up
giving an appraisal on something which he is not aware of.
Corp. Executive
All the employees of
managerial level and above should get an integrated view of the manager's style.
It is very important to get a feedback from people who affect your performance
and whose performance is affected by you. 360-degree feedback offers the best
way to do this.
A Multinational Executive
The 360-degree feedback
given eliminates bias and provides for a better perception of the employee
because it is an assessment by more people. There will be a difference in the
manner in which an individual perceives himself and how others who interact with
him see. The 360-degree feedback bridges the gap and helps an individual in
knowing about himself.
A Corporate Manager HRM
360-degree feedback cannot exist in a true spirit in a
developing country. The following statements support this:
Culturally there is an acceptance
of hierarchy in India. In the Indian organizational culture there is a high
degree of power distance. In contrast, there is a hierarchy in the organizations
in the west but no cultural acceptance. That's why 360-degree feedback as a
system can function in the west and not in India where we do not dare confront
our superiors.
