“If a man hasn't discovered something that he will die for,
he is not fit to live.”
-- Martin Luther King
You alone can motivate yourself for you know what your
dreams, goals and inherent strengths are.
Since no one else can motivate individuals, organizations
too, can only inspire their employees to discover and share their needs with the
management. To inspire someone effectively you ought
to know his ambitions, values and how he uses his brain.
Motivation involves rejuvenating
the positive images of the goal in one's mind.
One member in the project team may be motivated to give his
best because he would not like to lose his well-established image. The other may
be doing so to ensure his promotion that is due after six months. A third person
may be wanting to prove his worth by accepting it as a challenge. In each case,
the member is trying to uphold and fulfil his uppermost values, which differ
from one another. These patterns of behavior are called Metaprogrammes in the
language of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP).
