Pages - HTML Documents
A Web page is a hypermedia document. It is a specific
implementation, though, that has its own characteristics.
HTML describes a Web page, which is stored in a plain text
file with the htm or html file extension. The primary purpose of HTML is to
describe how to format the text content of a Web page. For example, HTML tags
specify when text is displayed with emphasis or when a block of text is
formatted as a heading. Some HTML tags also cause the Web browser to display an
image or to format content as a table. Most importantly, HTML tags can link a
word or phrase to other documents on the Internet. In short, a Web page is a
combination of text and the HTML tags that format that text.
