FREE online courses on Information Technology - Chapter 4 IT AND CORPORATE
STRATEGY - A Corporate Plan for Information Technology
A plan for information processing should be coordinated with
corporate strategy. The plan serves as a road map to show the direction of the
systems effort. It also furnishes the basis for later evaluation of the
performance of the information processing function.
Many organizations agree that a plan is needed yet do not developed one. A
frequent reason is that the three-to-five-year information systems planning
horizon is not compatible with the planning horizon of the organization. It is
both possible and highly desirable to develop an information processing plan
even without a formal corporate plan. The technology is too pervasive and
important for planning to occur by default or solely through decisions made by
personnel in the information services department.
