Methods of Data and Information Collection
Several methods are available for the collection of data.
The choice of method will have an impact on the quality of information.
Similarly the design of data collection method also decides the quality of data
and information. The methods of data collection and processing become a part of
the MIS.
An awareness of these methods is essential to the manager.
Further, he should also understand the potential problems of bias, currency, and
the fact versus the opinion in the various types of methods. The observation,
the experiment, the survey and the subjective estimation are the methods chosen
for data collection and information about a specific problem, while the
remaining methods are chosen to collect data on a routine basis without any
particular problem whatsoever.
