·
The VAN services senders by delivering ASC X12
transactions to the designated receivers.
·
Senders communicate with the VAN at their convenience
and the VAN delivers the sender's transactions to Electronic Mailboxes.
·
Each mailbox belongs to a specific recipient of
transaction data and transactions from multiple senders are collected in the
same mailbox.
·
At his convenience, the receiver of EDI data from a VAN
establishes a communication session and requests delivery of all transactions
stored in
his mailbox. Since the sender and receiver's communication sessions are
independent of one another, the VAN acts as a buffer of security.
·
As the sender and receiver are never directly connected,
a VAN user is not required to support various data communication protocols and
speeds based on the abilities of individual trading partners.
