Globally FedEx is the pioneer in the integration of
information and transportation services. FedEx's online initiatives started in
the early 80s with Customer Operations Service On-Line System (COSMOS), which it
placed on the Web in 1994.
In 1999,
FedEx launched InterNetShip that allows its customers in India to ship
documents, request courier pick-ups, send e-mail notifications to recipients of
all shipments, and track the shipment online.
This eliminates the need to handwritten multiple airway
bills. For those clients who do not have access to the Net, but do have e-mail,
FedEx offers an e-mail tracking facility. Clients sending e-mail queries with
the airway bill number get an automated response in a few minutes, detailing the
status of the shipment.
