Guruthva means the mode of being heavy. This
term is interpreted by Colebrook as gravity which " is the peculiar cause of
primary descent or falling." In the view of Udayanacharya, gravity is
imperceptible and can be inferred from the act of falling. Vallabhacharya that
it is perceived in the position of a thing descending to a lower situation. This
mode is specially inherent in Prithvi and Ap.

Laguthva or levity is the negation of
Guruthva.
