Effective Time Management - TIME SAVERS - DECISION MAKING
Indecision, perhaps another name
for procrastination, is the biggest thief of time, says Charles Flory. Why do
mangers prevaricate? Some
insights:
1. I need
more data/information
2. I am
waiting for so and so to come
3. Let me
think it over
4. We
need another conference to deliberate
5. Such
things take time
6. Let us
constitute another committee
Causes for indecision may lie
buried deep in an individual psyche, or be a conditioned response to
environmental factors:
a.
Cautious by nature (training/motivation required)
b.
Zero mistake syndrome: “no decision, no mistakes –
promotion assured”, [Organizational change necessary]
The faster the decision, says Frank Nun list, the faster it
can be corrected if it is wrong. Applying Pareto's Principle, 80% decision can
be taken straightway, only 9% requiring more information / accurate data. It is
a myth that the longer it takes to arrive at a decision, the more accurate it
is.
